Regional Clubs (like our own RCSC) organize groups of alumni in their respective geographic areas. They
exist to promote the interests and welfare of Rutgers University. In NJ, the University looks to its organized
alumni associations to play a leadership role in efforts to involve alumni in the affairs of their respective
schools and colleges and the University. Outside of NJ, the regional clubs play a crucial role in acquainting
alumni with one another, in providing important ways of communicating with our graduates from time to
time on issues of importance to the University and to society, and in encouraging alumni service, principally
through student recruitment, fundraising, and community service. In so doing, the regional clubs encourage
hundreds of alumni worldwide to serve as ambassadors for Rutgers in particular, and for higher education
generally.
The Goals of a Regional Club
As you all know, our Rutgers Club of Southern California is a “Regional” Alumni Club, assisted by, but not
directly funded by, the University. We have our own dues to help cover our mailings and other yearly costs
and we do most of our own mailings, publish this newsletter and the directory, and sponsor social and
community events. We are often asked about the relationship of Regional Clubs to the various Colleges’
Alumni Associations, like those for Rutgers, Douglass, Newark, and Livingston Colleges. The following is
taken from the Alumni Relations Regional Club Leadership Manual.

So – there you have it – and don’t you think we here at RCSC are doing a great job, too! A BIG THANK
YOU to all of you who have supported and continue to support RCSC through the years. We could not be
the fantastic club we are without each and every one of you. We hope to see you at one of the upcoming
events over the next few months.

- to foster and nurture camaraderie among alumni and a spirit of goodwill and loyalty toward the
University, - to maintain and improve communication with alumni,
- to create opportunities for alumni to provide service to the University, its students, and other alumni
- to foster outreach to alumni groups,
- to enhance the environment in which financial support for the University can flourish, and
- to provide opportunities for alumni to experience the cultural, social, and educational life of the
University.
So – there you have it – and don’t you think we here at RCSC are doing a great job, too! A BIG THANK
