Welcome to the Rutgers Club of Southern California

Thank you for becoming a part of the Rutgers Club of Southern California (RCSC). We have about 5,000 alumni here in our nine-
county Southern California area, nearly 1,000 of whom have participated in one or more of our RCSC events over the past 50+
years. This year there are 375 RCSC RU Alumni whose names you will find within the 8th Edition of the RSCS Membership Directory,
available with your annual membership of $25.00.

RCSC is proud to host a number of different events throughout the year – about one a month. We vary the events from formal to
informal; family-oriented to adult-oriented; sports outings to classical concerts; museum tours, Sunday brunches, and many more. We
strive to appeal to a variety of tastes and pocketbooks, as well as to a variety of locations, from Newport Beach to Santa Barbara,
Santa Monica to Palm Springs. Earlier this year, 40 of us attended the Fabulous Palms Springs Follies! We’ve also attended a soccer
game at the new Home Depot Center in Carson, home to the LA Galaxy and RU alumnus, Olympic star defender, now Club manager,
Alexi Lalas, (RC ’92) – with whom we arranged to meet after their winning game. We had almost 100 alumni and friends attend a
Dodger game where we met fellow RU alumnus, Dodger Eric Young (LC ’89). We also went to see and meet fellow alumnus, Avery
Brooks (LC ‘73/MGSA ’76) – of “Deep Space 9” and “Spencer for Hire” fame – in his incredible performance as ANOTHER alumnus,
Paul Robeson. We filled a bus and went for a tour of the Santa Barbara wine country, stopping to visit alumnus and RCSC member
Arthur White (RC ’67), partner and president of Los Olivos Vintners & Arthur Earl Winery! Other trips included a tour of the American
Originals at the LA City Central Library, hosted by me, a docent; a visit to Lotusland, the incredible gardens in Santa Barbara; a tour
of the Nixon Library; a boat tour of the Newport Harbor; and even outings to the Santa Anita Race Track. And of course, we have
been hosting our Quarterly mid-week, evening Social Mixers in Beverly Hills and Hollywood for the past two years.

Of highest importance is the continuation of our RCSC Endowment Fund. At $100,000+ and growing, it is far beyond its initial goal of
$25K. Ours is the first Regional Club to do this! The interest generated from the Endowment will be used in perpetuity to provide
scholarships to future Rutgers students from Southern California. Thank you to all contributors – every contribution counts! We
attend high school college fairs around the Southland, creating a visible presence for Rutgers and we promote the Rutgers Book
Award, given to achieving juniors in high school. The Club participates in community service events, including Habitat for Humanity,
Tree People, and Big Sunday. We are also joining the Hollywood Beautification Team in its United We Plant effort – to plant and
dedicate a tree for each lost soul on September 11.

We maintain an email list to keep in touch with our alumni to let you know when Rutgers students and faculty are in our area – be it a
sports team, an acting troupe, or a renowned professor – we notify our members. We also keep our members informed of University
and Club activities through the quarterly newsletter, “Targum West”.For the past five decades we have had an active alumni Club,
and this year will be no different. RCSC strives to bring our alumni together as friends and business associates. We always
encourage new folks to attend our quarterly planning meetings, to contribute ideas and help plan events.

Give us your email to get all of the notices! Help us save on postage. Visit the website at www.RutgersSoCal.org often to see what
events are coming up  Please become involved with your Club. Attend a planning meeting and/or coordinate an event that you have
been interested in. We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events and hope that you will become active in your Club.
